Another great RNS for this mini ROLLS Royce company (technology expertise, not sp performance). Everything up, my best performing share ever since purchasing at launch :)

Hi Graham. I am in here too. All metrics sound good. What do you make of the comment that full year profits will be marginally ahead of expectations given that ABDP are significantly ahead at half way?

I like the tie up with the Williams F1 racing team. Good move which should help 2016/17 profits

I must admit this sort of comment has always mystified me as nobody ever quotes what "expectation" means. I can only assume it relates to either a Nomad or brokers report..

Hi Graham - I found the consensus brokers' EPS forecasts for 2016 and 2017 on morningstar as attached below - 20.7p for current year rising to 22.5p next year. These would have been posted before the latest RNS.

So if profits are expected to be marginally ahead for the full year, I guess they are looking at something like 21-22p earnings for the current year. I found it surprising that given ABDP will be significantly ahead at the half year that things might just cool ever so slightly in the following 6 months.

Could it be down to the new building and scaling that up to bring to full production next year?

I certainly like the tie up with Williams F1. I am a big fan of F1 so that certainly appeals to me.

Anyway, based on the RNS and my numbers above I will take a bit of profit out at prospective PE of 20 ie 410-420p.

"Economies are not driven by the majority, but a minority that play by different rules. Given the global newsprint devoted to the UK referendum, it would appear that the key issue facing automakers today is whether to build cars in the UK or Poland. It is not. The elephant in the room is the advance towards the autonomous (driverless) car, which is allowing new entrants (Apple, Google, etc.) to come and play in their backyard. As a solution provider for testing next-generation cars, AB Dynamics (ABD) is well placed to grow at 20% p.a. as competition for driverless cars intensifies. The 17% fall in share price since 10 May 2016 has created a great opportunity to invest in this specialist UK driverless car play."

RNS - Raising £6m for working capital + new specialised development centre @475p (6% disc). This is a great company, no panics everything is planned and organised in a timely manner. This shouldn't suppress the SP by much as it means a new faculty will be open earlier. This is my best share ever :)

    Panmure Morning Note 29-03-2017
    AB DYNAMICS PLC | ABDP | 612.5 12.5 (2.1%) | Rating: Hold | Target Price: 575.00 see www.research-tree.com

Trading update: Revenues and operating profits (adjusted to add back share option charges) in the six months to 28 February 2017 are expected to be ahead of the same period last year and in line with management expectations. This is already in our forecasts. We are expecting revenue and EBIT to grow by c20% in 2017. The company has seen an increase in demand for its track testing products and together with its forward order book has secured a sales pipeline for the remainder of this financial year and well into the next.

Slowing growth? We tend to track Continental’s ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) as a data point for the transition to fully automated driving. As the table below shows, in 2016 volume growth in ADAS remained high at 36% but the rate of growth has decelerated.

Lumpy forecasts: Our 2017 forecast is dependent on the company winning at least one £2m order for its virtual prototyping and advanced simulation equipment.

Too much cash: Our forecasts imply that the company will end fiscal 2017 with £13m of cash, having raised £6m in December 2016.

We are cutting our recommendation to HOLD as we see little upside from current levels given the lack of positive surprises in today’s trading update. Multiples of 4.4x 2017 sales and 17x 2017 EBITDA imply an expectation of at least slightly exceeding expectations. We had assumed that acquisitions will provide the momentum until organic investments deliver. However, acquisitions are proving elusive and excess cash is diluting returns. Moreover, our forecast relies on at least one order in vehicle simulator market, which has yet to be announced. The management has shown that it can use the financial markets to raise equity but it now needs to show that it can deploy excess equity productively.

Beautiful set of interims - everything up 10% after considerable investment. What a beautiful consistent company - delivering everything either in line or above epectations, with no bull ****! - so unusual for an AIM company - cautious and adventurous all at the same time! Possibly no dramatic change in SP but one of my long time favourite holds..
